Plymouth Mountain: 3/9/2014*

Mileage: 3.9 miles
Elevation gain: 1415'
Trails used: Fauver Link Trail, Sutherland Trail.

A day after hiking with Brian, Desi and I wanted to take advantage of the good weather that continued into Sunday.  We wanted to stay some what local so we chose Plymouth Mountain, which you can see from I93.  We also figured the trail would be broken out since it was a somewhat popular hike.  We were right on all accounts, and this hike turned out to be a hit.

Plymouth Mountain is located in Plymouth, New Hampshire and is also the highest point in Plymouth.   The actual summit is wooded but nearby ledges and Pikes Peak offer views to the north and east.

Heading up the Fauver Link Trail from the parking area off of Old Hebron Road.

The trail crosses this old logging road at about 0.4 miles in.....

...and then you continue on the Sutherland Trail.

It was really easy snowshoeing through nice woods as you head up the ridge to the summit of Plymouth Mountain.

The summit of Plymouth Mountain (elevation 2193').  We followed some tracks to get here that were probably not part of the official trail.

To get to the summit, we bypassed the ledges lower down known as "Pikes Peak".  Very nice views looking north and east.

View of Mount Moosilaukee and its snow capped south and main peaks.

Looking towards Cannon Mountain and Franconia Ridge

Looking towards Waterville Valley and Sandwich Dome.

Looking over towards the Ossipee Range.

Last look from "Pike's Peak".  Notice the nice woods below.  There was a resident moose that had bedded down in a few areas recently.

A bit hard to see but looking towards Tenney Mountain and its wind turbine's.

Time for us to start heading back down.  The woods again are super nice so it was a super quick hike out to the car.

Overall, not a bad 4 miles.  Nice woods, trail was easy to follow and really decent views from Pikes Peak.  Add in the warmer temperatures and this is a possible return trip in nicer weather.  Elevation gain is pretty easy for those that like light hikes in the woods, and is very kid and family friendly.
